VMware is rightfully considered the leader in the virtualization market. It offers a whole range of products for literally all occasions. Today we offer you to look at the most popular VMware solutions and their application in cloud provider services.
Brief history of the company
VMware was founded in 1998 in Palo Alto, California . Even then, the company's mission was to improve computing efficiency, and as we can see, VMware is still successfully following this path.
The company's first product was Workstation 1.0, a system virtualization software that allowed wordpress web design agency users to deploy several virtual machines on one hardware computer and run completely different operating systems on them.
A few years later, VMware released its first hypervisor, ESX Server, which forever changed the approach to resource virtualization. Incidentally, starting with the fifth version, it acquired a slightly different name, ESXi, which remains relevant to this day. In 2003, VMware introduced vCenter 1.0, a centralized IT environment management platform.
In just over 20 years of its existence, VMware has grown from 5 enthusiastic specialists into a global company and a leader in virtualization software. VMware has literally revolutionized the IT industry and opened up incredible opportunities for a huge number of enterprises.
Today, VMware has over 100 products in its portfolio, and their number is constantly growing. Today, we will look at the most common solutions and tell you about their capabilities.
Key VMware Products
VMware vSphere
A server virtualization platform and the "heart" of modern data centers. It includes the ESXi hypervisor and software for centralized management of the vCenter Server virtual infrastructure.
VMware ESXi ( formerly ESX ) is a hardware hypervisor that is installed directly on a physical server and does not require any layers in the form of an intermediate OS.

Companies typically choose ESXi for a number of reasons:
Stability
ESXi allows you to deploy even large VMs ( up to 128 vCPUs, 6 TB of RAM and 120 devices ) and therefore supports applications of any size.
High level of security
Extensive encryption options are available for virtual machines.
Ease of interaction
For regular administration, you can use the user-friendly HTML5 interface, and for automation of these processes, you can use the vSphere command line interface and API.
The public cloud IaaS Elastic Cloud from #CloudMTS is built on the basis of vSphere and other VMware solutions .
Also, VMware's product portfolio recently includes vSphere with Tanzu. This tool allows you to deploy containerized applications directly on your existing IT infrastructure.
VMware vSAN
Enterprise-class storage virtualization software . With vSAN, you can create virtual storage on server disks that is accessible to all vSphere cluster nodes. In other words, both virtual servers and a virtual storage system will run on a single physical server.
VMware NSX
Network virtualization and security platform. VMware NSX allows you to "shift" the VM operation model to entire networks. The solution already includes all the necessary components and services, such as: logical switches, routers, balancers, VPN and even tools for monitoring network operation and improving the quality of their service.
